Mr. Thomas Schwab
Thomas Schwab is a Scientific Advisor at the German Youth Institute (DJI) within the ESD Competence Center "Education-Sustainability-Municipality," a role he has held since 2021. He is also a member of the Board of the Association for Sustainability (Verein Nachhaltigkeit e.V.), showcasing his commitment to advancing sustainability and education.
His career includes significant roles such as Transfer Manager in the field of Sustainable Development at the Catholic University of Eichstatt-Ingolstadt (2018-2020) and Managing Director for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at RCE BenE Munich e.V. (2011-2018). Additionally, he worked as a Project Assistant at the Munich Senior Citizens Academy, part of the Munich Educational Association (2009-2011).
Thomas holds a Master's degree in Educational Management from the Ludwigsburg University of Education (2010-2013) and a Diploma in Catholic Theology from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich (2002-2008).
His contributions to academic and practical discussions on sustainability are reflected in several key publications, including "Status of ESD Implementation in Education Landscapes – Needs for Action in Multi-Stakeholder Settings in German Municipalities" (2024), to appear in UNESCO’s International Review of Education. In 2023, he co-authored "Networks and Cooperation - How Can ESD Cooperation Be Designed?" featured in a practical handbook for sustainable development at the municipal level.
In 2022, Schwab collaborated with Lisa Artmaier on "Taking Refugee Experiences Seriously - Designing Education for Sustainable Development with Sensitivity to Diversity," published in the Sustainability and Peace series by the Association for Sustainability. Earlier, in 2017, he co-authored "Sustainability in the Field of Nutrition for the UN University's Innovation in Local and Global Learning Systems for Sustainability."
