Green University Award

The Green University Award celebrates and acknowledges institutions of higher education leading in sustainability, and successfully implementing programs and initiatives to advance the Green Education Transformation (Education 6.0) according to the Holistic Green Education Framework.

Eligibility and Criteria

To be eligible for the Green University Award, institutions must showcase their dedication to the Green Transformation and Sustainability through their commitment to the Holistic Green Education Framework. This Holistic framework is comprised of six pillars:

Green Education Leadership:

Green Education Leadership encompasses dedicated green transformation leadership, implementation of Green Transformation Strategies, Establishment of ESG Teams, and regular auditing procedures.

Green Curriculums and Instructional Methods:

Greening Curriculums and Instructional Methods highlights the integration of Environmental Programs and technology-enhanced learning approaches within the institution’s curriculums, empowering students with practical Green Skills.

Green Research and Innovations:

Green Research and Innovation focuses on institutions’ contributions to promote Green Innovations and foster scientific research collaborations, industry partnerships, and support programs for social innovation.

Green Facilities:

Greening infrastructure and operational practices, features the institutions’ contributions in energy consumption reduction, water conservation, waste management, sustainable transportation, green procurement, and health and well-being facilities.

Green Human Capital:

Green Human Capital emphasizes the institutions’ efforts in developing a green-minded workforce through boosting students’ environmental responsibility, encouraging healthy lifestyles and implementing professional development programs to increase graduate employment rates.

Green Communities:

Greening Communities highlights the institutions’ social, economic, and environmental impact on the nearby community through industry and community partnerships, climate education initiatives, and public engagement and outreach programs.

Green University Award Timeline

1- Application Submission 1st February 2024 to 1st June 2024

Applicants are required to submit:

1- Green University Award Form:

Provide institution information.
Include contact person details for effective communication.

2- Video Presentation (3-6 minute Video):

Create a video highlighting real shots from the university’s innovative projects and initiatives aligned with the Holistic Green Education Framework.
Emphasize the statistics, number of beneficials, outputs, processes, and outcomes of these initiatives.
Clearly demonstrate the institution’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and the Green Education Transformation.

3- Article (700-1000 words):

Craft a detailed article showcasing the university’s green transformation projects and initiatives.
Highlight the innovative aspects of each initiative.
Articulate the impact of these projects on promoting sustainable practices, both on and off-campus.
Provide insightful commentary on the projects’ contributions to the broader goals of sustainability.

2- Application Review 1st February 2024 to 1st June 2024

The Green Education Awards committee, comprising esteemed members such as university deans, educational leaders, and representatives from ministries, will undertake a thorough review of the submitted applications and ensure a comprehensive evaluation process. Their collective insights will be instrumental in identifying and classifying initiatives according to their commitment to sustainability and the Green Education Transformation (Education 6.0).

3- Top 60 Announcement 1st July 2024

The Green Education Awards committee will officially declare the closure of the application review process by announcing the Top 60 applicants that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and the Green Education Transformation (Education 6.0). These selected applicants will progress to the next stage of evaluation, emphasizing their noteworthy contributions and aligning with the Holistic Green Education Framework.

4- Nomination and Advocacy 1st July 2024 to 30th July 2024

Universities will engage their communities with the Green Transformation through:

Initiating an advocacy campaign involving students, graduates, and alumni to actively participate in the campaign and vote for the University at the Green University Award.
Encourage the university community to highlight the university’s achievements through #GreenEducationAwards and #GreenUniversityAward Hashtags on social media.
Extra points will be counted for the Media Coverage, reports, news, interviews about university participation at the Green University Award and Green Education Awards. Media Coverage Links should be sent prior to 1st August to [email protected]

5- Top 6 Winners Announcement 24th September 2024

The Green Education Awards Committee will contact the winners by the 1st of September 2024. The Announcement of the Green Education Awards will be declared in the Global Green Education Conference #GEC24.

Green University Award Prizes

The winning universities of the Green University award will receive a multitude of benefits, including:

Global recognition and acknowledgment for their efforts and achievements in the realm of Green Education Transformation.
Free Qualification for the Green Education Auditing, an initial step in their journey to earn the most significant accreditation in Green Education (Education 6.0); Green Education Accreditation for Higher Education.
Attain authorized use of the Green Education Trustmark to elevate the institutional reputation and demonstrate your Green Transformation excellence.
Free membership for two years in Climate Education Network.
Green University Award Trophy and Certificate of Excellence.
“Golden Pass” for the World Green Education Conference 2024 #GEC24, to attend all related events for free.
Financial grants will be determined according to Green Education Awards sponsors.
