About Iran University of Science and Technology

Established in 1929 in Tehran, the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) originally served as the Governmental Technical Institute, later renamed the Advanced Art College, and eventually elevated to the status of Iran Faculty of Science and Technology in 1972. Following a decree by the Ministry of Sciences in 1978, the institution attained full university status as IUST. Today, it stands as a prominent technical school in Iran, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs across 13 faculties, spanning engineering disciplines, mathematics, and physics. Notably, in 1995, IUST granted Iran's inaugural PhDs in Materials, Metallurgical, and Traffic Engineering. Complementing its academic endeavors, the university hosts 12 research centers, nine centers of excellence, and 19 specialized libraries, alongside satellite campuses dispersed throughout the nation. Situated in Tehran's Narmark area, the 42-acre campus encompasses academic buildings, administrative facilities, a main library, residential halls, a mosque, and comprehensive indoor and outdoor sports amenities, including a 20,000-seater sports stadium. Among its distinguished alumni, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's sixth president, holds a prominent place, having pursued undergraduate studies in civil engineering at IUST in 1976, followed by master's and doctoral degrees in traffic and transportation engineering and planning. Subsequently, Ahmadinejad joined the faculty as a lecturer in 1989, marking a significant contribution to the university's legacy.
