Established in 1809, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, stands as a nationally ranked public university with a rich history and strong ties to its Native American roots. Named after the original Native American tribe of the Miami Valley region in Ohio, the university continues to honor its heritage and maintain connections with the tribe, now located in Oklahoma. Chartered in 1809 and welcoming its first students in 1824, Miami is recognized as one of the oldest public universities in the United States. Its notable alumni include President Benjamin Harrison and Professor William Holmes McGuffey, creator of the widely used McGuffey Readers. Additionally, Miami University is the birthplace of several prominent fraternities and sororities.
