Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), was founded in 1950 in Shenyang, then known as Shenyang Advanced Vocational School, and moved to Qingdao in 1956. In 2002, it was renamed Qingdao University of Science and Technology. At present, it has five campuses and one base of education,research, and industry integration.At the 11th Party Congress of the School in September 2022, QUST set the goal of “a high-level leading university with‘distinguished features’". After more than 70 years of development with the support of all parties concerned, QUST has now grown into a multidisciplinary university with a focus on engineering and coordinated development of disciplines in science, engineering, humanities, economics, management, medicine, law, art, and education. Known as "the Cradle of China’s Rubber Industry", QUST is the only local university with two national "111" bases and is among China's top 50 universities for graduate employment and entrepreneurship. QUST has 5 majors authorized to offer PhD degrees, 5 postdoctoral research departments, 23 majors to offer master’s degrees with 18 concentrations available to choose from. Now it has established several distinctive disciplines covering Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electromechanical Engineering, Information Science and Technology, etc. Four disciplines, namely Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering Science, and Environmental Science and Ecology have entered the top 1% of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). In particular, Chemistry has entered the top 1000th in the global ESI discipline ranking for the first time. QUST has won 15 National Science and Technology Awards. It has 13 national scientific research and innovation platforms to patent, publish and produce the results of a scientist’s work. So far, 9 companies have been listed as a result of the technical support by QUST. In April 2018, the "Qingkeda 1" satellite, was launched into space; In May 2021,China’s "Tianwen-1" Mars probe successfully landed on Mars, with the key core technologies for autonomous navigation provided by QUST; In March 2023, National Rubber and Tire Engineering Technology Research Center, co-established by QUST, won the China Industrial Award, the highest award of its kind in the country. QUST ranks 52nd among Chinese universities in Patent Transfers and was awarded as a “University with Outstanding Contributions in Innovation of the Cooperation among Industries, Universities and Research Institutes” in Shandong Province. The "QUST Model" has been widely acclaimed for its integration of governance, industrialization, academia, and research. Insisting on the opening-up strategy, QUST has established partnerships with more than 130 foreign universities and institutions from 22 countries and regions. Moreover, it has 1 Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution and 7 Sino-foreign cooperative educational programs approved by the Ministry of Education, covering science, engineering, and art. The Sino-German Technical College (CDTF in German) founded by QUST and the University of Paderborn in Germany, has been included in the cooperation project between the governments of China and Germany; Sino-Thai International Rubber College (STIRC) launched and co-established by QUST, is the first overseas cooperative educational institution of engineering from Shandong Province. Focusing on talent cultivation, QUST has a professional staff of over 2,800, among them there are 2 academicians, 11 visiting academicians and more than 150high-level talentsincluding winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Outstanding Youth, National Distinguished Model Teachers and National Teachers of Excellency, among other prestigious awardees. QUST has made great achievements in education and teaching. It has 79 undergraduate programs, among which there are 24 National First-Class Programs, 5Provincial-Level First-Class Programs, 5 Pilot Trials for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and 17 programs for the National Engineering Education Professional Certification. So far,QUST has been granted 2 National Teaching Achievement Awards and over 300 Provincial Pilot Teaching Projects. In the future, QUST will implement the "Three Major Strategies" of talent cultivation, peak discipline building and quality management toaccelerate high-quality development towards the goal of becoming a high-level university.
