Shantou University

Shantou University, established in 1981 with the endorsement of the State Council, stands as a provincial comprehensive institution in Guangdong Province. Collaboratively founded by the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Province, and the Li Ka-shing Foundation, it holds the distinction of being the first high-level university in Guangdong Province to develop key disciplines. Moreover, it serves as an experimental demonstration school for higher education system reforms and mechanisms, piloting educational evaluation reforms in Guangdong Province. Notably, it remains the sole university globally to receive continuous funding from a private foundation, the Li Ka-shing Foundation, while being a public institution. The university comprises colleges spanning liberal arts, science, engineering, law, business, as well as specialized institutions like the Yangtze College of Art and Design, Yangtze School of Journalism and Communication, and a medical school. With over 1,294 full-time faculty members and a student body exceeding 20,000, Shantou University has significantly contributed over 140,000 skilled professionals to society. Noteworthy achievements include the establishment of one national key discipline, multiple postdoctoral research stations, and numerous doctoral and master's degree authorization points. The university boasts a robust research ecosystem, with several key laboratories and research centers dedicated to advancing various fields. In terms of international collaboration, the university has forged partnerships with over 119 institutions across 29 countries and regions. It has been consistently recognized in prestigious university rankings and maintains a strong presence in global academic circles. Looking ahead, the opening of the East Coast Campus in October 2022 marks a pivotal moment for Shantou University's expansion and interdisciplinary focus.
