Stony Brook University (SBU) stands as one of New York State's prominent universities, nestled in Long Island, a mere 60 miles east of New York City. This public research institution holds distinctions such as a sea and space grant, membership in the Association of American Universities, and recognition as a National Merit institution. Notably, it is among the select 10 universities nationwide acknowledged by the National Science Foundation for its commendable integration of research and undergraduate education. Hosting an approximate student body of 25,000, SBU encompasses 13 schools and colleges, inclusive of the Graduate School and Honors College. The School of Health Sciences, comprising five professional schools encompassing Dental Medicine, Nursing, Social Welfare, Medicine, and Health Technology and Management, enrolls approximately 3,000 students. Situated on Long Island's expansive North Shore, the sprawling main campus spans over 1,000 acres and accommodates key academic facilities, an 8,300-seat stadium, sports complex, and Stony Brook Medicine, the university hospital. Furthermore, the main library, affiliated with the Association of Research Libraries, alongside the Health Sciences Center Library, a member of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries, provides an extensive array of resources spanning books, print and electronic journals, microforms, music recordings, and maps. Sporting events feature the Stony Brook Seawolves, with their spirited mascot, Wolfie the Seawolf, a local icon renowned for making appearances on television and participating in charitable endeavors.
