Texas Tech University (TTU) is a public research university situated in the city of Lubbock, Texas. Its campus is shared with the Health Sciences Centre, making it the sole campus in the state that houses a prominent university, law school, and medical school. Originally named the Texas Technological College, the institution commenced operations in 1925 with six buildings and a cohort of 914 students. It underwent a name change to Texas Tech University in 1969. Presently, the university comprises 10 distinct colleges, including those of Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Education, Media and Communication, and Visual and Performing Arts, along with a Graduate School and a School of Law. Offering a total of 150 undergraduate degrees, 100 master’s, and 50 doctoral degrees, TTU fosters a robust academic environment. In 2014, the university's total research expenditures surpassed $150 million, and in the preceding year, 10 of its faculty members received grants from the Fulbright US Scholar Programme — the highest number among research universities nationwide.
