Thomas Jefferson University is a private university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the US. It was born out a merger between Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University in July 2017. While it goes by the name Thomas Jefferson University, it is also known as Jefferson University. There are two campuses that form the university, as well as a research centre. The East Falls campus is spread across 100 acres, and is a 10 minute train journey from Centre City, Philadelphia. The campus consists of 52 buildings, including classrooms, laboratories, studios, the Paul J Gutman Library, student accommodation and an exhibition gallery. The campus is also home to the Kanbar Campus Center for students, faculty and staff; the Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center; the LEED Gold Center for Sustainability, Energy Efficiency and Design; the PhilaU Residences at Falls Center, and the innovative DEC Center. A subsidiary campus is located in Bucks County. The second campus is located in the centre of Philadelphia and houses the medical offices and Jefferson Health hospital. The sports teams are known as the Jefferson Rams. The university is well known for its men's basketball team but students can take part in many other sports such as baseball, rowing and tennis. There are a number of charity groups and events, social organisations, diversity programmes and industry outings that students can get involved with. There are also many things that students can do in the city of Philadelphia itself, such as visiting the historic attractions (Liberty Bell and Constitution Center), following the hiking trails and parks or exploring the thriving music and food scene.
