The University of Perugia, one of Europe's oldest institutions, established in 1308, is situated in the Umbria Region, renowned as the "green heart of Italy" celebrated for its arts, music, and natural landscapes. Currently organized into 16 Departments and numerous Centers of excellence, it boasts approximately 24,000 students, 1,100 professors and researchers, and 1,100 staff members. Recognized for the quality of its research, education, and services, the university has consistently ranked first among large-sized Italian Universities with 20-40 thousand enrolled students, according to the 2018/2019 Censis ranking (Center for Studies on Social Investments), marking the sixth consecutive year of this achievement. All 17 PhD programs maintain an international focus, engaging in collaborative research projects with leading universities worldwide. Presently, around 50 research groups have secured grants from the European Research network, underscoring the university's commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation. With approximately 400 Erasmus+ agreements across the European Union and about 150 agreements with universities outside the EU, students have access to mobility grants enabling them to spend up to 12 months studying abroad. This service's quality is validated by the European Commission, which has awarded the university the ECTS label for excellence.
