About China University of Petroleum
Founded in 1953, the China University of Petroleum consists of two campuses. One is in Changping District, Beijing (with a second branch at Karamay, Xinjiang) while the other is in Qingdao, East China. The university was founded by acquiring the best petroleum departments at various universities in the country, including: petroleum research groups in department of geology, department of mining and department of chemical engineering from Tsinghua University and some students and faculty from the department of mining and department of chemical engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical Institute (now the Northwestern Polytechnical University). Students can study specialities within a wide range of faculties, including: geosciences, petroleum engineering, chemical engineering and environment, mechanical and transportation engineering, safety and ocean engineering, new energy and materials, economics and management, science, sports, humanities and arts, foreign languages and artificial intelligence. Students can study at bachelor, master’s, and PhD level. The China University of Petroleum works closely with world-leading energy companies to enhance its position as a research university. Companies include China National Petroleum Corporation, Shell, Saudi Aramco and BP. The China University of Petroleum has advisory and career guidance services from specialised consultants to introduce students to companies for employment purposes. Additionally, the university organises an annual work fair for students. The China University of Petroleum has also established relationships with more than 120 universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad.
