About De Montfort University

Originating from the Leicester School of Art in 1870, De Montfort University (DMU) attained university status in 1992, adopting its name from Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, a figure pivotal in establishing the first parliament in 1265. Today, DMU hosts approximately 20,000 students from diverse backgrounds worldwide, distributed across its four faculties: Art, Design and Humanities; Business and Law; Health and Life Sciences; and Technology. DMU stands out among universities in the UK for its block teaching method, where students concentrate on one module at a time, benefiting from regular assessments and feedback rather than traditional end-of-year exams. This approach fosters close interaction with tutors and peers, creating a strong sense of community within the learning environment. Students at DMU gain invaluable work experience opportunities, facilitated by strong partnerships with prominent employers like ASOS, Disney, HSBC, KPMG, L’Oreal, Rolls-Royce, and Pfizer. The university offers lifelong careers support, including networking events, recruitment fairs, and personalized advice sessions. In 2023, DMU received recognition as a top UK institution for work-based learning, with its career mentoring program earning a national award for its student support initiatives. DMU Global, the university's acclaimed international experience program, offers students a range of opportunities, including academic trips, internships, study exchanges, and volunteering abroad. Participants broaden their horizons, develop cross-cultural skills, and enhance their employability through exposure to diverse cultures and environments. Situated in Leicester's city center, DMU provides a vibrant campus environment within walking distance of the lively city hub. The university boasts a blend of historical and modern architecture, comfortable accommodations, and numerous amenities for studying, socializing, and relaxation. With over 140 clubs and societies, students have ample opportunities for extracurricular engagement, while guest lectures featuring industry leaders enrich the academic experience. DMU remains committed to enhancing its facilities, including the Vijay Patel Building, digital design hub, teaching spaces, dining areas, and the Students’ Union, alongside efforts to maintain and expand green spaces across campus.
