Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS or Mount Sinai), formerly known as the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, is situated in New York City, New York, United States. Functioning as the academic teaching division of the Mount Sinai Health System, it oversees eight hospital campuses across the New York metropolitan area, including Mount Sinai Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Ranked among American medical schools by the 2024 U.S. News & World Report, Mount Sinai was positioned 15th in the nation for biomedical research in 2021. It stands out in research funding from the National Institutes of Health, particularly in neuroscience and genetics, with over $400 million secured in total NIH funding in 2021. The faculty at Mount Sinai comprises 23 elected members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, along with 40 members of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. In 2018, the MD program enrolled 140 students from a pool of 6,156 applicants. Matriculants boasted a median undergraduate GPA of 3.84, and their median Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) score placed in the 95th percentile. However, candidates admitted through the early-admissions program are exempt from the MCAT requirement. Currently, the Medical Scientist Training Program is nurturing over 90 MD/PhD students.
