About San Francisco University of Quito

Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), borne out of the vision of Santiago Gangotena and Carlos Montúfar, both Ph.D.s in Physics, along with the dedication of many others over three decades, emerged in 1988 as Ecuador's first fully self-financed university. Initially facing challenges in gaining approval, USFQ persevered and opened its doors on September 1st, 1988, in a residential house in Quito. Recognized officially by the Ecuadorian State in 1995, USFQ has since expanded significantly, now boasting 10 academic colleges and a postgraduate college, offering a wide array of disciplines. Notably, in 2002, USFQ established its Extension in Galapagos, becoming a pivotal institution for education, research, and conservation in the islands. Guided by a philosophy rooted in Liberal Arts, modern teaching methodologies, and a diverse learning environment, USFQ not only provides professional training but also fosters the holistic development of its students, nurturing them as critical thinkers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
