Shandong University of Science and Technology (SDUST), founded in 1951, offers multidisciplinary education in engineering, sciences, management, literature, law, economics and education with unique engineering characteristics. It is a key construction university of Shandong Province for cultivating personnel with practical abilities and a high-level university. The University now has three campuses, located respectively in Qingdao, Tai’an and Jinan, covering a total area of over 233 hectares with a floor space of 1.55 million square meters. The total value of fixed assets of the university reached to 4.2 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 984 million yuan. The University comprises 34 academic colleges and 5 research institutions. There are 10 centers for post-doctoral studies, 10 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees and 32 first-tier disciplines authorized to confer master degrees; 20 disciplines to confer master’s degrees and 72 undergraduate programs. The University boasts 1 state key discipline (under construction), 2 potential disciplines for the 811 project of first-class discipline construction in Shandong Province4 hig-level disciplines of Shandong province, 5 first class disciplines of Shandong province and 21 key disciplines of Shandong province and Qingdao city. Engineering, mathematics, chemistry, materials science Earth science and computer science have entered the top 1% of ESI in the world. There’s also a state key lab base co-founded by Shandong Province and the Ministry of Education, 2 state-local joint engineering centers, 1 national engineering lab and 118 ministerial/Qingdao city-level Lab (base) and Engineering (Technology) Research Centers. SDUST currently enrolls over 30,600 full-time undergraduate students and more than 9,600 master and doctoral candidates. Among a faculty and staff of over 3,300 are 330 professors, including 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 12 dual-employed academicians, 1 foreign academician of Japanese Academy of Engineering, 25 candidates of the Yangtse Program professors, Outstanding Young Scholar and Millions of Talent Projects. 50 professors are entitled to state special subsidies. There are 2 leading talents in the talent team of Taishan Scholar's Advantageous and Characteristic disciplines, 50 experts in the Taishan Climbing Project, special experts and young experts, and 17 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Shandong Province. There are 3 national model teachers, 6 national excellent teachers, 1 national famous teacher, 17 provincial excellent teachers. There are 1 national teaching team, 1 national level curriculum of ideological and political teaching team, 8 provincial teaching teams. There are 2 Education Ministry innovation teams, 2 Shandong province innovation teams, 41 innovation teams of youth innovation in science and technology of high education institutions of Shandong province, 24 innovation teams of talent introduction and cultivation plan. There are 26 national first-class undergraduate discipline construction sites, 8 special disciplines and comprehensive renovation pilot programs, 20 programs that have passed engineering certification, 26 first tier undergraduate curriculum, 1 ideological and political demonstration curriculum. There are 10 excellent open courses, resource sharing courses and excellent courses, 6 teaching achievement awards, 5 experimental teaching demonstration centers, virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and engineering practice education centers, 1 talent training mode innovation experimental area, 1 off campus practical education base for college students. There are 15 provincial-level fist-tier undergraduate program construction sites, 18 brand featured programs, 9 high-level application-oriented project groups, 5 education docking industrial projects serving the new and old kinetic energy conversion, 75 first tier undergraduate curriculum, 18 ideological and political demonstration curriculum, 58 excellent courses, 141 teaching achievement awards, 1 ideological and political curriculum teaching and research demonstration center, 5 experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 talent training model innovation experimental areas, 1 new and old kinetic energy conversion industrial training base. Since the 13th five year plan, SDUST has undertaken 700 national scientific research projects and 1200 provincial and ministerial projects. It has won 300 scientific research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 2 second prizes of national science and technology progress and 2 second prizes of national technological invention. 2800 national invention patents were authorized. Journal of Shandong University of science and Technology (natural science edition) is a national core Chinese journal and a science and technology core journal. The Science and Technology Park of the university is jointly recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education as the "National University Science and Technology Park" and the "College Students' Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Practice Base". The university is recognized as one of the first batch of bases for the transformation and transfer of scientific and technological achievements in colleges and universities by the Ministry of education. The University has established cooperative relationship with 120 universities and research institutes in 23 countries and regions, and the university was successfully selected in the "discipline innovation and talent introduction plan of universities". Nearly 100 foreign experts joined the university every year. 1 Sino-foreign joint education institution and 3 joint-education programs are approved by the Ministry of Education with over 1800 students enrolled. Over 500 international students from more than 60 countries come to SDUST for degree or short term studies.
