About Shanxi Medical University
Shanxi Medical University, situated in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province, boasts a 104-year history. Founded in 1919 in the ancient city of Bingzhou, Shanxi Medical University underwent significant development after the establishment of the People's Republic of China. In 1953, it gained independent status and was renamed Shanxi Medical College. Subsequently, in 1996, it acquired its current name, Shanxi Medical University. The university is recognized as the third batch of doctoral degree authorization units in China, the first batch in Shanxi Province, and among the first to receive authorization for master's and bachelor’s degrees in the country. It is supported by the National Basic Ability Construction for Central and Western Universities Project and is distinguished as a High-level Public Health Construction University and National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Construction Units. Over its 104-year history, Shanxi Medical University has evolved into a comprehensive institution integrating humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and management into medical education. Guided by its motto, "Broad and Profound in Medicine, High and Sound in Virtue," its ethos of Dedication, Pragmatism, Solidarity, and Enterprisingness, and its spirit of Practicality and Diligence, Persistence and Tenacity, the university aims to excel in research while prioritizing undergraduate and postgraduate education. The university's three campuses in Chuanzhi, Yingze, and Zhongdu cover a total area of 9.84 square kilometers, with a construction area of 710,000 square meters. It comprises 40 teaching institutions, including clinical medical colleges, basic medical colleges, public health schools, and nursing schools. Additionally, the university boasts 64 affiliated and teaching hospitals, 125 other teaching bases, 15 graduate training bases, and 2 scientific research bases.
