South China Normal University (SCNU) has a rich legacy, tracing its roots back to the establishment of Gezhi Academy in 1888. Founded in Guangzhou in 1933 as "Guangdong Provincial Xiangqin Normal College," SCNU became a member of "Project 211" in 1996, aimed at establishing 100 renowned universities in China. In 2015, it joined the Guangdong High-Level University Sponsoring Project, and in 2017, it became part of the National Sponsoring Project for World-Class Disciplines Construction. SCNU now encompasses four campuses across Guangzhou, Foshan, and Shanwei, covering over three hundred and fifty hectares. It comprises four colleges, 38 schools, and 11 institutes and centers. Over its 90-year history, SCNU has adhered to a teaching philosophy of advancing knowledge and nurturing societal expertise, guided by the motto of hard work, rigor in study, innovation, and moral exemplarship. The university has educated over 900,000 teachers and professionals, evolving into a comprehensive teacher training institution in southern China. It emphasizes distinctive teacher education characteristics, while also advancing across all academic disciplines. SCNU's Physics discipline is part of the national "World-class Disciplines Development" project, and its School of Marxism is designated as a National Key School. The university hosts four state-level key disciplines, nine key disciplines under "Project 211," and twenty-three key disciplines for Guangdong Province. It has received accolades for disciplines such as Psychology, Physical Education, Education, and Marxist theory, ranking among the top Chinese and global disciplines. With 87 undergraduate programs, 33 master's programs, and over 200 doctoral programs, SCNU offers a comprehensive talent training system. Currently, it enrolls over 24,000 undergraduates, 8,000 postgraduates, and 1,100 doctoral candidates, along with a diverse community of international students.
