Established in 1808, the University of Belgrade stands as Serbia's oldest and largest higher education institution. Boasting 31 schools, 11 research institutes, eight centers, and a vast university library housing over 3.5 million volumes, it offers a diverse array of over 350 study programs encompassing sciences, mathematics, engineering, medical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. Renowned for its esteemed law school, one of the largest in the Balkans, the university has produced numerous expert scholars and government officials. With nearly 100,000 students and around 4,200 academic and research staff, it operates across two main campuses: the King Alexander Boulevard Campus and the Studentski Trg. Providing accommodation for over 11,000 students in Belgrade, the university is the country's largest student housing provider. Actively engaged in international mobility programs, particularly within the European Higher Education Area, Belgrade University extends its reach globally. Belgrade itself is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city steeped in cultural heritage, hosting attractions such as the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the National Library, and the National Theatre, alongside numerous museums, monuments, parks, and eateries. Despite facing closure during the German occupation in 1941, the university reopened post-war, gradually expanding its faculties.
