About University of Zurich

Established in 1833, the University of Zurich (UZH) holds the distinction of being Europe's first university founded by a democratic government rather than by a monarch or religious institution. As Switzerland's largest university, UZH accommodates 26,000 students across seven faculties, offering a diverse array of over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. Renowned for its research prowess, UZH is a member of the League of European Research Universities, particularly excelling in fields such as medicine, immunology, biology, genetics, neuroscience, and economics. While undergraduate instruction predominantly occurs in Swiss Standard German, all master's programs are conducted in English. Embracing a philosophy of knowledge dissemination, UZH opens its twelve museums and extensive libraries to the public, regularly hosting public lectures and panel discussions to share research findings. Fostering collaborations with other Swiss universities and European counterparts, UZH continues its tradition of progressive policies, including its early advocacy for women's education rights. The university boasts associations with 12 Nobel Laureates, including luminaries like Albert Einstein and Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. Situated in Zurich, a vibrant hub of business, finance, and culture, the university's three campuses are conveniently located near the city center, accessible via public transportation.
