About Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City
Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) was founded on January 27th, 1995 according to the Government’s Decree No. 16/CP on the basis of the merger of nine universities into eight members. VNUHCM was officially launched on February 6th, 1996. In 2001, VNUHCM was reorganized according to the Prime Minister’s Decree No. 15/2001/QĐ-TTg (February 12nd, 2001). VNUHCM has its own organizational and operational regulations. Accordingly, VNUHCM is a multidisciplinary, highly qualified and advanced centre for post-secondary education and science - technology research activities which plays a key role in the national higher education system and is able to satisfy development needs. At present, VNUHCM consists of seven member units: University of Technology; University of Science; University of Social Sciences and Humanities; International University; University of Information Technology; University of Economics and Law; Institute for Environment and Resources. Besides, VNUHCM also consists of affiliated units whose tasks are training; scientific research; managing; technology transfering; and simultaneously assisting and interacting with each other in order to generate the systematic power. The headquarter of the university is located in Linh Trung Ward, Thủ Đức District, Ho Chi Minh City. At present, VNUHCM has been working on the project of reconstructing the campus of 643.7 ha into a modern city. Aiming at a stable development of the training size in the schoolyear 2018 - 2019, VNUHCM is currently training 61.726 full-time undergraduate students along with 99 majors/groups of majors related to techonology, science, social sciences and humanities, economics, medical science. In terms of postgraduate education, VNU-HCM offers 105 master programs and 79 doctoral degree programs. In terms of human resources, in 2017, VNUHCM has totally more than 5.382 staffs including 3.284 lecturers, 2.098 officers and 928 researchers, among which are 369 Professors and Associate Professors, 1.141 Doctors and 2.133 Masters. VNUHCM has continuously improved training content, methodology, invested in developing human resources, facilities and infrastructure with an aim to enhancing training quality and satisfying national needs for development and international intergration.
